Carrera GT Pre-Purchase

Maintenance and Pre-purchase Overview

Carrera GT models require substantial maintenance even if not driven. The following is a guide to the factory maintenance requirements and known latency issues that need to be assessed as part of a pre-purchase inspection.

Maintenance Schedule

  • If the mileage for scheduled maintenance is not reached, Porsche recommends carrying out the next scheduled maintenance. For an annual mileage of more than 10,000 miles (15,000 km) it is recommended to perform the next scheduled minor or major maintenance.
  • On vehicles with annual mileages of less than 10,000 miles (15,000 km), an annual maintenance must be performed once a year.
  • Minor maintenance after 15,000, 45,000, 75,000, 105,000 miles (24,000, 72,000, 120,000,168,000 km) etc. If the mileage for scheduled maintenance is not reached, minor maintenance must be performed after 2, 6, 10 … years at the latest.
  • Major maintenance after 30,000, 60,000, 90,000, 120,000 miles (48,000, 96,000, 144,000,192,000 km) etc. If the mileage for scheduled maintenance is not reached, major maintenance must be performed after 4, 8, 12 … years at the latest.

Pre Purchase Issues

  • Camshaft pitting (may require replacement of camshafts)
  • Clutch measurement (31mm new, required to be replaced at 28mm)
  • ECU scan for fault codes
  • ECU scan for overspeed events
  • Fuel pump vacuum test (fuel pump diaphragm deterioration may require replacement of integrated pump and gas tank)
  • Outstanding recalls
  • Struts leaking or sagging
  • Tires replace if more than four years since new
  • TPMS battery life assessment

Estimated Costs and Timing

  • Tires with new TPMS – $4,000
  • Minor service with pollen filters – $2,000
  • Major service with belts (engine in) – $6,000 – $8,000
  • Major service with belts and valve adjustment (engine out) – $16,000 to $18,000
  • Major service engine out with seals replacement – $19,000 to $21,000
  • Camshaft replacement – $18,000 (plus installation)
  • Clutch pack – $19,000 reman, $25,000 new (plus installation)
  • Fuel pump and tank replacement – $22,000 (plus installation)
  • Engine out service – 2 to 3 weeks

Note: If the most recent required major service was not engine out engine removal may be required to assess certain issues.
